Imagine a child who has never held a book in his hands
Being about to read and write is essential to every child’s future, but in Kenya, nearly one in five children is illiterate. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and giving these children the skills they need to aim higher and go further.
Camp Ohana is addressing the literacy crisis with an ambitious project: to build the first
children’s library in western Kenya.
In addition to providing access to thousands of books and other educational materials, the
library will become the hub for a range of educational programs to teach children of all ages how to read, write, and spell. The children will also be able to receive tutoring for math, science, and other school subjects.
The library project will continue throughout 2014, with completion scheduled for mid 2015.
We are actively fundraising for this vital program in 2014, and your monthly micro-donation of just $5 can help us reach our goal. Please donate now.
