Educating Rural Kenya

Disadvantaged children in rural Kenya are usually marginalized due to their unfortunate circumstances.  Rather than being merely in the world, Camp Ohana reaches out to these kids and teaches them that they are can be co-creators of their reality.  CampOhana uses education as a tool to empower these kids. Through focused learning curriculum centered on community needs, kids are able to see their transformation from a desperate situation to a positive outlook. The children learn that life does not just happen to them – they all have a role in the unfolding in their lives, no matter their circumstances.  Since societal change comes from the collective transformation of the individuals within that society, these kids will, with time, transform their respective societies into vibrant self sustaining communities as they grow up.  CampOhana believes that all children have the right to a life of opportunity and the freedom to choose their own future and the right to be successful in their endeavors.  There is no better reward than seeing a child succeed in their endeavors

Camp Ohana Foundation recognizes that some basic environmental and human requirements needs to be met before the children can be educated.  To meet these requirements, Camp Ohana has developed long term programs that actively involve local community partnership.  The long term perspective with local participation will ensure that the communities can sustain themselves locally thus removing reliance of outside help.
